Wedding Action + Venue + Royal Baby

Should the bride make a speech at the wedding reception?

by Jade Pearson via Wedding Ideas

Traditionally it’s the bride’s father, the groom and the best man who say a few words, but these days we’re seeing more and more brides get up to make a speech of their own.

We think it’s a great idea, what better time could there be for you to personally thank your nearest and dearest? We chatted with our brides on the Wedding Ideas Forum about the idea of the bridal speech and their opinions were quite mixed!
bride speech mariadefaci.com

Autumn Bride on the on the forum says “I am one for tradition and personally don’t like this new idea of bride speeches.”

“I’m more comfortable with public speaking than my other half,” says HannaBee13 from the Forum, “so would probably be quite happy to make a speech of my own.”

One bride-to be is saying her thank yous in her order of service. “I have put what I want to say in the order of service,” says mrsw. “Basically it’s a short verse for each member of the bridal party thanking them for their help and support.”

What should the speech be about?

So the men in your life may talk about certain matters and try to embarrass each other but there are a few topics that are particularly appropriate for the bride to mention.

Firstly, there’s your family, that includes your current family and the new one you’re marrying into. You’ll want to mention how important your current family have been to you over the years and how they’ve made you the person you are today. You’ll also be becoming part of your husband’s family and his parent’s daughter-in-law, so give them a mention. You may also be gaining new brothers and sisters, so you should say how excited you are to be involved with them all now.

The dearly departed

The groom’s speech may well be quite jovial and joking, but it’s also traditional for them to mention those who have passed away and those who are missed on this special day. It’s bad timing to do this and then head straight into the jokes, so mentioning loved ones no longer with you is a thoughtful element to have in your bride’s speech. That way you can leave the groom and the best man to do the jokes. Don’t forget, you can toast the dearly departed too, that’s also a charming touch.

Giving out gifts

You’ve probably chosen the gifts for the bridesmaids, your mum and the groom’s mother. So perhaps you’re the best person to hand these out? Traditionally it’s always been the groom but we think the bride is a better choice to be honest.

A Relaxed and Laidback East London Wedding At The Zetter Townhouse

by Love My Dress via Love My Dress Wedding Blog
Well flippedy do! The baby is finally here! A future King! That was history right there in the making at 4.24pm yesterday afternoon in that private clinic in London - seriously, can you imagine the actual scene?  But what's all this talk of thunder? We've had none here, um, yet - keeping a close eye on the gathering clouds outside though.

So with a focus on the beautiful city of London, this mornings wedding come's to you from our capital's East side, where Sarah and Dom tied the knot earlier this year, with a ceremony at The Old Marylebone Town Hall, followed by a reception at The Zetter Townhouse.

The couple's photographer was the amazingly talented Joanna Brown, who I chose to work with on my book and that gorgeous dress was a creation by one of my favourite designers (and who made this little blue number), Joanne Fleming.  I love how Joanna has captured the completely laid back and fuss-free nature of this wedding...

Zetter Townhouse Wedding, Joanna Brown Photography

"We wanted our wedding to be like any party we’d throw; relaxed, informal and low key.  Tradition pretty much went out of the window and when we found The Zetter Townhouse, it all fell into place.  It’s basically just a beautiful, cozy living room where people could snuggle up and enjoy the incredible cocktails.  We did few of the things you’d expect at a wedding and it got exactly the response we were after; happy, relaxed, slightly tiddly guests.

As for the style of the day, that was easy.  I’d already booked Joanna Brown to capture our day.  I saw her at work at a friend’s wedding a couple of years ago and was blown away - so she was the first person I got in touch with when we got engaged." Read full post ....

Truly Our Own

Yes – that’s right…this wedding has horses. I can virtually hear the ooohs and awwws from here. I think Steph and Tom’s venue may be one of the most idyllic I’ve ever seen and luckily the British weather held out for their ceremony. Everything just looks so beautiful bathed in the Spring sunshine.

Steph and Tom seemed to keep the music pumping, the food coming and the drink flowing all day long – they even had a late-night campfire with marshmallow toasting. I know. AMAZING.

I’ll pass you over to Steph who makes a very stylish Bride in her fitted lace wedding dresses – which by the way she rocks in the unusual champagne tone. It works so perfectly with her skin tone. AND it was the first dress she tried on! View more ....

The sun is shining, we shared a super pretty wedding earlier and we’ve got lots of chocolates at RMW HQ.….it’s turning out to be a BEAUTIFUL day folks.

This afternoon we’ve got a cooler than cool engagement shoot to share with you and just to mix it up a bit the accompanying text it’s written by the fiancé. Yep, Brad shares the low-down on his original and romantic proposal idea to his future bride Nazmiye as well as the W-day plans (which we will be posting in the not too distant future.)

This makes me want to put on a stripy dress, some sneakers, a leather jacket and chop off my locks in the hope that I would look half as epic as Naz.

Brad The Groom: The engagement was on Christmas day 2011. The proposal was by a video I had created on youtube of a harpist signing to a song that she loved. Her name was Jharda the signing harpist. So…I then got in contact with her and asked if she would collaborate with me in making a proposal video to which she kindly agreed to.

2013-07-09_0002

The video started with Jharda sing and playing the harp to “songbird” by Eva Cassidy and towards the end of the song, I walked on in the background with cue cards of the lyrics and the last card read “will you marry me”. View more ....

A Reflection On The Benefits Of Having Your Wedding Filmed

Jordanna-dave
This Friday lunch time, I've invited wedding photographer Jordana Marston, whose beautiful work has featured many times on Love My Dress, and whose own wedding we blogged back in May, to talk about her wedding film.  Jordana has an important message for those of you considering investing in a wedding film - something I find myself recommending to readers more and more these days.  Over to you lovely Jordanna...
'I often hear from my brides and friends that one of their biggest regrets post wedding is that they hadn’t hired a videographer. When you start planning a wedding a videographer might not be on the top of your list for priorities – it certainly wasn’t for me. I hired a film guy because I had a nightmare just two weeks before my wedding. The nightmare went something like this…I woke up and thought damn I’m married and I missed my wedding, I don’t remember a word of it because I was so nervous.'

''Then I actually did wake up (are you following me here people?!), and thought I need a video guy/girl to film my day. And you know what – I was soooo happy I did because my nightmare did come true. Unlike my usual calm and relaxed self I surprised myself by how nervous I got. STUPIDLY NERVOUS. Leg shaking. Running into McDonalds on the way to the ceremony to throw up and all sorts. I know glamorous! I wasn’t ill by the way!'

Love My Dress Wedding Blog - Film Production Copyright (c) 2013, Our Wedding Day Movie
'Anyway, photographs, of course, are absolutely essential (see a snippet of some of ours below, or our wedding in full on Love My vintage wedding dresses), but actually being able to hear speeches, laughter and emotion is truly priceless. And there is something just magical about film – watching my son waddle about (he had only just been walking two months when I got married); seeing his granddad play peekaboo with him when we were meant to be having our formal family shots and the nervous/proud expression on my dad’s face…oh just all of it. I love it and I will  treasure mine forever.'

'It’s funny because although I love the camera. I love being firmly behind it. I am no natural in front of it and am a real over-smiler, often looking a bit dorky and although I will eternally have chubby chops you would have thought by my age I would have learned how to work them to avoid the old double chin! No!But does it matter? No – because it is just me. The real me. No hiding. And I love my wedding film for that and 'I’m sure my son will too when he shares it with his kids.'

'Much love to Mark at Our Wedding Day Movie for being ace. So cool, relaxed, willing to try something different and being my new friend.'  View more ....

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall? ~ The Seasons and What They Might Mean for your Wedding Day

We were blessed with perfect weather on our wedding day. It was exactly what we had hoped for. A crisp, cold day complete with winter sunshine and blue skies.

I woke at around 5.30am, unable to sleep any longer, and watched the sunrise through my bedroom window. The grass surrounding the hotel looked as if it had been dusted with icing sugar and the early morning light danced across the frosty bonnets of cars parked nearby.
Summer-weddings
The strange thing about our decision to marry in the middle of January is that under normal circumstances I possess a deep loathing of winter and all that goes with it. Once the excitement of Christmas has passed, you're left with a long and arduous wait for spring to appear. It's cold and dark and usually wet. If it snows, the country is thrown into chaos and I come under increasing pressure to adopt sensible footwear. Bleugh.
However, when it came to selecting a date for our wedding my opinion shifted. The bleakest months of the year suddenly seemed romantic, the cold an excuse to cosy up to my new husband. There were other, more practical, considerations too, not least the fact that marrying out of season meant we enjoyed a sizeable discount on the cost of our venue. Moreover, the need for warmth spurred my decision to wear a feather trimmed coat designed by Joanne Fleming, an accessory I now can't imagine my wedding day without. View more ....

A Collection of Dresses

Blue jeans, white shirt

RM DENIM. We shot these pictures last week for a super fun collaboration with Rebecca Minkoff who asked me to show my take on a pair of jeans from her new denim line. Personally, I’m always on the hunt for that perfect pair of jeans that will magically transform my body into Gisele Bündchens (you know what I’m talking about ladies!) but I’m not willing to compromise when it comes to comfort. The verdict? The cheap weddings jean is super comfy, fits like a glove and has that that perfect “worn and loved” feel that takes years to achieve on your own, serious favorite jeans potential! What about turning into Gisele? Well, sadly, I’m still plain ol’ me, but I did get compliments on how great my butt looked in them, so that has to count for something, right?

The jeans are available on rebeccaminkoff.com and each pair of denim sold triggers a donation to the ‘No Kid Hungry’ campaign which can connect a child in need with up to 20 meals!

Back to basics

B/W. These past couple of days have been super hot here in NY and dressing up has been the last thing on my mind, so back to basics it is! I scored these silk whyred pants on a sample sale years ago and they are one of those perfect pieces I always whip out when I’m in a hurry or don’t have anything to wear. Actually all of the pieces in the look above are things I wear on a weekly basis which probably proves that I should listen to my mom and invest in more timeless basics. They are after all the foundation of your wardrobe!

LUCKY. A couple of weeks ago I did a photoshoot for Lucky Magazine together with Leandra and Emily and now the issue featuring the ‘It girls, it bags’ editorial is finally out. Huge thanks to the lovely people at Lucky Magazine for such a fun experience, loved the insane Miu Miu chiffon wedding dresses I got to wear for the shoot!
